As part of my job I organise the day-to-day workload of the members of my team. I also provide technical leadership to them. I have a team of engineers reporting to me, and I am very involved in their training and development. This is especially true of the graduates and apprentices.

I also provide technical support to other departments in the company, from sales to manufacturing, purchasing and quality. I love my job because I really enjoy the design and technical sides, but also the management. It is a really good compromise, and I think it suits me well. I am quite technically minded, but at the same time I am good at planning and organising.

After finishing my master’s degree in Physics, I started working in the aerospace industry, which I really enjoyed. However, after a couple of years, I happened to move to the North East of England. I got a job at Wellstream in Newcastle, as a design engineer in the offshore oil & gas industry. I then joined JDR Cables, first as a design engineer, then as senior design engineer. I am now a design team leader.
