I am an Apprentice Multi-Skilled Technician (Electrical Bias) working for the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult at the National Renewable Energy Centre in Blyth. My job consists of preventative and reactive maintenance across the site on equipment and the facilities themselves. I am also involved in electrical installations and various other work around site. In the past, I have also been involved in blade tests, dock tests and electrical projects.

I enjoy my job because of the amount I have learnt, and have still to learn, working in this role. Whilst being here I have worked on maintenance tasks and electrical installations and been involved with various projects in our Blade Test 2 Facility and electrical networks, allowing me to work with different members of the team on various types of work who all have an array of skills and knowledge in those areas, invaluable to me as an apprentice.

Personally, I would say apprenticeships are a good route into the sector, especially higher apprenticeships. And my advice would be to do as many industry-related courses and academic courses out there, which would give you a greater chance of employment in the industry.
