Hi, my name is Caroline Gutridge and I am a Design Manager and Senior Project Engineer at RES, a wind farm developer, where I’ve been working for nearly five years. I am a passionate believer that sustainability should be taught at school as we need to be sustainable in every aspect of our lives no matter what career path people take.

I was inspired to work in renewables after a visit to the Centre for Alternative Technology as a child. I especially loved going up in the ‘renewable lift’ and spinning around in the ‘wind chair'. I did my degree in Civil Engineering at Cardiff University then I enrolled onto a Masters in Renewable Energy at Loughborough University.

Parents are genuinely concerned about where their children are going to find jobs – the renewables industry is providing those jobs. My advice to people interested in renewable energy careers would be to be positive, aim high, visit renewable energy companies and renewable sites as much as you can and try to get construction experience of a wind farm. Make the most of the opportunities that are opening up in this sector.
