My job involves managing the Offshore Wind Industry Council's various workstreams which aim to realise the UK Government's Offshore Wind Sector Deal and 50GW by 2030 target. I report back to the OWIC Board and UK Government Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on the progress we are making.

The workstreams cover everything from supply chain growth and jobs, to consenting challenges around grid connection, aviation and environmental factors, to innovation, the transition from traditional energy industries and understanding how wind operates as a key part of the wider UK power system.

My advice to anyone wanting to work in renewables is you don't have to restrict yourself - there are so many different career paths and opportunities in the sector that you don't have to follow a set route. I once met a Partner of a law firm, working in renewables, who only retrained as a lawyer after having her children. Prior to this she had spent most of her career as a theatre set designer!
